Murcat Clay – Water Cup

Murry Pruder is the creative force behind Murcat Clay, a pottery studio located in his hometown of Thompson, Manitoba. With a passion for pottery that began in 2012, Murry has dedicated himself to refining his craft over the years. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3D Art from a university in Idaho in 2015, equipping him with the skills and knowledge to pursue his artistic vision. After graduation, Murry moved to London, Ontario, where he participated in a pottery residency at Clayworx (formerly the London Potters Guild). From 2018 to 2020, he expanded his experience by working at Hutton House, where he taught pottery classes to adults with disabilities, fostering a love for creative expression in his students. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Murry returned to Thompson and began developing his business plan. With a Youth Entrepreneurship loan from the Louis Riel Capital Corp, he transformed his shed into a small studio and conducted classes from his living room while juggling a full-time job. After a move, he upgraded his space, converting his garage into an operational pottery studio. Now, he has left his full-time employment to teach and create pottery full-time. Inspired by the serene beauty of the north and the companionship of his beloved cats, Murry’s work reflects his deep connection to his surroundings. Through Murcat Clay, he shares his passion for pottery with others, offering classes and workshops that encourage creativity and self-expression, and selling his unique creations.
