Peyton Smith

Peyton Smith is a Métis woman located in Treaty 2 territory. She was always fascinated by the beadwork of many Métis people and wanted to learn how to create her own beadwork. She began beading in early 2020 and was able to refine her skills throughout the pandemic lockdowns. In the Spring of 2021, the Northwest Métis Council in Dauphin, Manitoba, offered a weekly class for beading. Here, Peyton learned new techniques and designs to add to her skill set. Throughout the last two and a half years, she has been learning many different methods of beading and using various patterns to create beautiful, beaded items. She has mostly been beading for family members and friends, however, she has recently branched out to become more accessible to the general public.
