Lisa Brinkworth

My name is Lisa Karen Brinkworth, proud Red River Métis. Born and raised in Winnipeg, from my English father Ronald, French Métis mother Angelique (Lafreniere).

I grew up going out to the family farm in Baldur Manitoba and St.Francis Xavier every weekend to be with family.

From an early age, I loved art, drawing and creating things, from plaster pouring in the sand, woodworking, and metal art in junior high. In high school, fashion tech, tap dancing, piano, guitar, and violin lessons.

When Covid hit, thanks to Infinity Women Secretariat and the Seven Oaks Métis council, I learned how to bead, via web classes. From there I found another artist who offered classes, from making beaded pins to gauntlets, mukluks.

As the years have passed, I have made many different pieces. From pins, gauntlets, and what I am most proud of is, a pair of mukluks for my mother.

I created a pair of short mukluks, from bison with rex rabbit, beaded in a Cardinal design. In memory of my father (his favourite bird), for my amazing Métis strong mother Angelique.

I hope to continue for years to come, creating for future generations.
