Jamie Markert – Merging Rivers Creations– is a Métis artisan born and raised in the beautiful valley of Saint Lazare; a place that is rich in Métis history where ancestors travel to Plains on the Red River Cart Trail and by water in the Qu’Appelle River that merges into the Assiniboine River. Fort Ellice, a place of trade for the Metis, looks down on the valley.
I spent my time enjoying the outdoors, fishing, camping, harvesting and exploring through the valleys. Nature inspires my work. I love art in any medium, I sew, cross stitch, woodwork, do floral arranging, gardening, and photography. I love beading and working with leather, I’ve made mittens, moccasins, and baby slippers.
Beading is an amazing way to decompress and relax. One of my favourite beading projects is making poppies and a portion of my poppy sales goes back to the Canadian Legion. Although you wear a crafted poppy, please continue to donate to the Canadian Legion Poppy Fund as this is their main source of income and supports our Veterans.
