Ally Freedman

Beads By Freeds

Beads By Freeds is owned by Ally Freedman, a Red River Métis woman whose family comes from Northern Manitoba / Saskatchewan around The Pas and Duck Lake. Ally was born and raised on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory (Ottawa, ON), and currently lives there. She also has Italian, Jewish, and French-Canadian heritage.

Ally comes from a proud Metis family with her great-great-grandfather, Alexandre Landry, having signed Half-Breed Scrip in the late 1800’s. Ally is honoured to be the first in her family to be a beadwork artist. It is a passion she now shares with her brother and hopes to pass along to her niece and the next generation of her family.

Her beadwork is a beautiful mix of traditional florals and colours, as well as a fun mix of bright and fun colours. She is inspired by the beautiful floral and fauna of Turtle Island, but also the shows and characters of her childhood. The goal of her beadwork is to honour her ancestors while also bringing joy to the beadwork’s owner.
