Jennifer Engbrecht (she/her) is of settler and Red River Métis heritage, with ancestral connections to the areas along the Assiniboine River in St. James, as well as the Red River around the Selkirk area.
She is a composer and songwriter who is inspired by kinship to the land around her. She believes in using music to deepen the awe we feel when immersing ourselves in the natural world around us. An educator of 30+ years, she has engaged countless students to create their own music and soundscapes to deepen their connection to the earth, and enhance their desire to care for her.
Some of these pieces have been performed and presented at the Earth Day Celebration at the Manitoba Legislative Building, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights as part of the UNESCO/Be An Upstander Showcase, as well as the Louis Riel School Division Learning with the Land event in 2026. Jennifer is available to collaborate with schools as part of the Artists in the Schools Program, with the Manitoba Arts Council.
